Your responsibilities as a driver
Legally you have 3 areas of responsibility as a driver.
- 1 Operate your vehicle correctly
- 2 Drive your vehicle safely around other road users and pedestrians
- 3 Wherever possible help keep the flow of traffic moving.
You will fail your driving test if you cause another road user, to brake harshly, deviate from their current route or stop.
Your speed should be determined by road, traffic, and weather conditions and the ability to stop safely in the distance you can see ahead of you. If an examiner feels more progress could be made, and in turn help the flow of traffic, then this could cause you to get minor faults or possibly fail your driving test.
Any other tips or trends?
Speed limits are the maximum permitted speed on a particular road, based on the safety of other road user and pedestrians. There could be hazards along that road i.e. school. These hazards will require you to slow down.
If you can safely reach the speed limit of a particular road, then you should. Driving too slowly could effect the flow of traffic.
Lead to impatient drivers trying to overtake when they shouldn’t.
