Automatic or Manual driving course

Automatic vs Manual driving course

It is getting harder to choose which driving course is right for you, we are here to help.

Today car manufacturers are designing cars to meet future requirement, which include being kind to the planet as well as using the latest technology. So where is the money being spent.

Manual gear boxes are now being fazed out and the money is being spent on Automatic transmissions, this is partially to do with the fact that manual gear boxes can’t be used with battery powered vehicles.

The move recently to EV (Electric Vehicles) has been huge due to lower prices and more choice and availability. Running costs are significantly less than a petrol or diesel car. With fuel prices on the rise and emissions  impacting  the amount of road tax you pay. Servicing costs can be more expensive too. All in all the world is changing and we need to adapt.

Should I learn to drive in an Automatic?

The good thing is, if you take your driving test in a manual car, you will still be able to drive an automatic it covers both vehicle types. If you take a driving test in an automatic you will only be able to drive automatic vehicles. This is probably the most important decision you will need to make. Company cars are going over to EVs but if you are going to have to drive a manual vehicle then bare this in mind.

Most retail food companies i.e. Tesco, deliver groceries in Automatic vans . Companies are adapting but be careful, and find out what your company vehicle is likely to be.

Is it easier to learn in an automatic?

Yes it is, taking away the clutch pedal and changing gear helps you become more confident in operating the vehicle, improving your overall confidence. At junctions and roundabouts less decisions will need to be made so you can focus on keeping your self safe, rather than trying not stall the car, or shooting out in front of oncoming vehicles.

This will all come down to less training needed, possibly. The driving experience will be more positive and hopefully you will be able to look forward to a long enjoyable time on the road.
